If I am stodgy and narrow minded in my explanation and acceptance of something, I am being pedantic.

If I explain something as if to a child, I am being didactic.

    Had that problem with one of my idiots-in-laws. If I was talking normally, I was purposely talking 'too smart' for him. If I dumbed it down, I was talking 'baby talk' to him.
