First It Was Bumpstocks

The ATF is rumored to be changing their rulings (shocking, I know) on pistols based on AKs and ARs.

They will no longer be pistols, they will be reclassified into "any other weapon" or AOW.

Pistols with a brace will be reclassified into "short barrel rifles" or SBR.

That's two of the three NFA work-arounds...  Your "firearm" is probably going to be reclassified into a short barrel shotgun or AOW next.

There might be a bright side to this.

Armor piercing rifle ammo is currently illegal because of the chowderheads who made pistols out of rifles, thus making rifle ammo pistol ammo, thus making it banned.  If a "pistol" made from a rifle is no longer legally a handgun, then the ban on AP rifle ammo cannot be legally sustained.

Warm up your lawyer and sue for 7N6 and M855A1.

  1. Seriously, this really should surprise no body. As the BATFE is big about changing their minds whenever they want.

    Just like California.

Both make rulings, people study them, make work-arounds, both organizations say "well, okay..." and then down the road both agencies say "Nope, that's not right" after bazillions of mods are made.

Bumpstocks. Button-releases. Rifle-Pistols with 'wrist-braces.' Unfinished 'high-capacity' magazine shells that can be made functional by buying parts. 70% recievers. Guns assembled from kits or pieces-parts.

All of these have and will be attacked.

And, of course, any restrictions are... blatantly against the 2nd Amendment, but both California and the BATFE have no problems going against that fundamental right.

As to 'getting back' 'armor piercing' ammo? Yeah, sure, not. See grasping overreaction by both agencies.

Maybe, just maybe, if all the firearm and gun control acts are shot down by the Supremes, but, yeah, I don't see that happening any time soon. Maybe, just maybe after President Trump or his right-wing successor gets to nominate 2-3 more...

    1. I think that if we're really honest about it and read the NFA carefully, "pistols" based on rifles have always been AOW's.

Also, if we're being honest, braced pistols are SBRs.

If the honest rulings had been made years ago, perhaps people would be angry enough to do something about the AOW change back then.

I think the brace thing is going to get some activism going.

      Good!
