Which Kind Of Flu

I just noticed a dishonesty in discussing Wu Ping Cough deaths versus "The" Flu.

The people pitching the idea that WPC is far worse than the flu are comparing it to seasonal flu.

Seasonal flu has a case fatality rate around 0.1 to 0.15.

WPG is running 0.1 to 1.0.

Yes, worse than seasonal flu.

But not near as scary as pandemic flu.

The 1957 "Asian" and 1968 "Hong Kong" flu's CFR were 9 to 10%.

Isn't is amazing that we didn't panic and shut down the world for those far deadlier epidemics?

It almost makes one start to suspect a more political motive...

  1. That's factoring in average seasonal flu. There are years, like 2002, where the 'seasonal flu' was the Grim Reaper using a chipper-shredder in nursing homes. Then there are years where only the most terminal go full terminal.

Wu Ping Cough is approaching the 2002 fatality rates, if you stick to actual primary and secondary effects deaths, rather than 'Ya popped a positive and now yer dead? COVID!!!'

Actually, if you can filter the info correctly, it seems like Chinky Pox may be less deadly than a rough Seasonal Flu year.

But this isn't the message they want us to get.
