The dye on the New Service bronzed, as the instructions warned it might.
Happily, I still have black shoe polish from when I was in the Army.
I don't think I will ever run out.
The flap is now black without any bronzing now that it's got a layer of Kiwi black shoe polish on it.
I still need to make me an embossing tool.
You may have to heat it up a tad if it's too caked up, but, yeah, maybe in a hundred or more years that stuff may go bad.
ReplyDeleteBlack leather dye is pretty much the best to use. Best covering and, as you found out, can be made better by the use of Kiwi.
Modern red dyes, on the other hand, suck complete rocks. Ever since they made the dyes more 'environmentally safe,' of course.
