Well, had my first good sneezing fit since the accident.
The first thought is, "that fucking hurt a lot!"
The second is, "did that jar things enough to puncture a lung and kill me?"
The third thought, after the fifth sneeze, "what if this DOESN'T kill me and I have to do this again?"
First time I bruised my ribs badly was from a rather extensive coughing/sneezing/allergy fit. Later diagnosed as a broken rib. That was about 3 weeks of allergy hell.
ReplyDeleteAnd I did warn you. I'd rather be kicked in the balls than have a coughing/sneezing fit with busted ribs.
It's not that I didn't believe you, I just didn't have a frame of reference to see what you were trying to say.
DeleteRight after my open heart surgery (valve replacement), any little sneeze or cough felt like a good punch in the chest where the wire wound around the sternum was. The hospital ICU issued a small cushion to hold against me when I had to cough. Looked silly as hell but jeez, it helped some. I was told that anesthesia affected the lungs to produce the material for the cough - a gift that keeps giving. It was a lousy 3 weeks, but I got over it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon.
