Apparently Disney has hired a black actress to play Ariel in the upcoming, and unnecessary, live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Apparently some racist troll make an account just to complain.

I don't object to the hiring of a black actress, I want the job to go to the most talented actor so the production gets the best performance.

I object to the entire process of remaking every fucking thing.

Make something new, Disney, use this actress to tell a new story!

There's very few remakes that are better than their originals in the first place.  There's no remake that's better than the original if it's a shot for shot recreation of the original.

I tried to find a few exceptions, but they're of the "exception that proves the rule" variety.

  1. You are so right about remake-mania. Unfortunately, showbiz is dominated by suits with attention spans like mayflies; you have to be able to "pitch" a project to them in no more time than it takes to ride an elevator. And they think that giving people more of what they have shown they like is a sure-fire way to make a hit.
