I've owned a S&W model 59 for a few weeks now.
I have barely even glanced at Marlin Camp Carbines, which take the same magazines.
I like the idea of a pistol caliber carbine, but never enough to spend any money.
Of course, there was a time when I didn't even want a 9mm handgun... now look at how many!
The thing that surprised me most about the Camp Carbine is just how recent it is.
That, of course, ties into how recent the pistol whose magazines it takes is.
There's a part of me that keeps thinking that both are from the early 1960's and it's just not so.
Knowing it intellectually doesn't seem to get me to accept it viscerally.
That is exactly how I ended up with a Ruger PC9. Apparently I have no restraint.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Ruger .44 Magnum carbine is the 1960's pistol carbine is what you were thinking about ? 1960's to 80's production is what I remember about them.

I'm not thinking of the wrong gun, just the wrong dates.
DeleteI think it's because the S&W 39 is from the 1950's and my mind just refuses to accept that they didn't think to double-stack the design until some random Squid asked, "can you make these to take High Power mags?" in the late '60's.
THAT is probably because the first time I noticed the S&W autos was well into the 2nd generation when the single and doubles came out at the same time.
It's an intellectual vs visceral conflict.
