What I Did Today

The Commemorative Air Force brought their B-24A cum C-87A "Diamond Lil" to Brooksville and flew it around some.

Being the frugal bastards we are, Marv and I just took the self-guided ground tour.

The B-24A is much smaller inside than a B-17G.

  2. I thought the net was supposed to find anything.
I've been looking for a good half hour-45 minutes to try finding a poem IIRR called "the Liberators Lament"
About a pilot talking to the ancient heroes about flying a b-24.
Some parts I remember are "The bulkheads thin- Ford builds wit tin.The pitot heads are filled with lead to help the load adjuster"
"The wings are filled with thermite to make a hotter fire"

  3. That organization, formerly known as the Confederate Air Force and had a museum in Harlingen, Texas had some great planes and WWII memorabilia. I visited their museum adjacent to the Harlingen airport in my 70's childhood years. It was great. In the 50's, I think back then, it was an aerial gunnery school.

  4. Nice! I got to tour the inside of a B17 once. I should have paid the $ for the ride. If you still have time, pay for that ride! -JKing

    1. Marv and I did the flight in Liberty Belle in 2009. Sadly... https://mcthag.blogspot.com/2011/06/we-wont-be-getting-any-more-footage.html But there's a vid of me crawling around and a link to pics.
