More murders in Chicago than all of Florida's major cities combined!
Except for one teensy problem... Jacksonville.
According to the article, Chicago has had 211 murders this year. The three cities they cite had 29. Jacksonville had 27.
The headline is still correct, but you have to include Jacksonville when you talk about major cities in Florida, especially since Jax is punching above its weight for crime.
The problem with Jacksonville is it really is a sprawling city composed of mini-cities and towns. And only certain portions of Jacksonhell are subject to high crimes and murders. All the suburbs are quiet. And the crime is localized amongst certain populations.
ReplyDeleteJust like Miami, but more so?
DeleteChicago is similarly fragmented. Heyjackass.com had a map showing murders in Chicago by neighborhood. Some places were double digit right next to places with no murders
DeleteYeah, I saw that and thought it was pretty much cherry picking. The bluest county in Florida was Broward a few years ago. It would make more sense to pick cities to match the population of Chicago. Maybe that's why they picked those three but it's not what they said.
ReplyDeleteIn the big picture sense, everyone knows that the big blue cities in the country are the worst places to be, and part of that is their stupid idea that if we tell criminals that having a gun is a crime they won't break that law while they're busy breaking any number of laws every day.
