Popularity Contest

I've noticed that you cannot just buy a new-made non-custom rifle in 7.62x54mmR.

Not from Browning, Howa, Remington, Ruger, Sako, Savage, Tikka, Weatherby or Winchester.  At least not for the US market, I have no tried to access the foreign language versions of their webpages for other markets.

You could have one made, of course.

The round is popular because the ammo is reasonably cheap and the rifles are too; but that's changing.  The rifles are climbing in price as is the ammo.  But it's only popular in those surplus rifles.  I don't think I've even seen a modern gun in 7.62x54mmR.  The closest is modernized Mosins.

Once the surplus is dried up... well Americans just don't seem keen on rimmed rifle rounds that don't work in a lever gun with a tube magazine.
