What happens to a new penny when you drop it in a fire?

  1. Pennies minted after late 1982 are garbage. Copper plated zinc discs. I save all the solid copper ones in a special container, just in case the need for some pure copper were to arise.

    1. I saw an article of gutting a penny using an acid solution to dissolve the zinc core leaving the empty copper skin behind

  2. According to this article, a penny costs more to make than it has value.
    This makes no cents at all. :)
