Spring?

I've got two Mauser Model 1910/14 .25 ACP pistols here that don't run well.

It was suggested that it was the recoil spring causing the issue, but I kept forgetting to order one.

I remembered the other day.

Now I need to hit the range and see if that helps at all.

If it doesn't, then I've got representational samples of the type.

  2. I've only got a couple of .25 ACP pistols, and neither of them are among the well regarded of the bunch. One of them is an RG 26 which was given to me because it was not running well. I found that the mag that came with it wasn't the proper one but was also not in great shape. I got a couple other mags that work better but it still isn't something I'd depend on for carry. The other is an unusual Sterling which is interesting and seems to run OK, and unlike the pot metal glory of the RG, the Sterling is made of well machined and finished steel. But .25 ACP isn't something that fills me with confidence in general so I probably wouldn't use it as anything other than a backup to a backup. Of course I also own one of the most derided pocket pistols, the Jennings J22. I've owned it for years and I found one thing. If you follow the instructions and use ONLY CCI Stingers in it, it runs. Any other ammo seems to occasionally stovepipe. I've tried hotter and milder ammo, same results. Anyway, not something I carry, at least not anymore. Back when I bought it at Jacobsen's it was about the least expensive pocket .22 you could get. I really wanted one of the Berettas but it was out of my price range and I wanted something pocketable even though carry permits were made of unobtanium in Iowa back in those days. That was in the early 1990s. A lot of things have changed since then.

    1. Despite packing one (illegally in Iowa) for a longish time, I've never considered the .25 effective.

Well, it IS effective at 90% of self defense needs! "Have a gun at all".

The other 10% where you have to shoot... Still mostly good because shooting is enough even if you don't hit.

The problem is there's a percentage where you HAVE to hit and the shots need to do real damage. The margins with .25 (and .22) are just too thin here.

But I collect them. I don't fire most of them and never intend to. The Mausers were purchased in a broken state, getting them running is part of the challenge.
