I am thinking of sending the 25th Infantry Regiment to the expeditionary force.
I've a nascent scene brewing in the back of my imagination that has them holding against all odds.
It's a solid unit to give this role too.
Update:
I am envisioning a situation where the neanderthals are doing a human wave and the discipline of keeping up single fire by volleys, using the magazines for rapid pulses as needed by the 25th saves them where emptying the magazines early causes another unit to be overrun.
