.45 Luger

They make them!

$8,000 seems a steal compared to what the originals (all two of them) have gone for.

They also make it in 10mm ACP.

Alt Miami Vice model?

The mind doth boggle.

$8,700 for the 10mm 1907 Classic.

How much to get Galco to make a Miami Classic for it?

A gun like this needs an appropriately retro Miami suit.  Ironically, it's called a Panama suit.

  1. Link? Photos? Never mind.
$7800 to $13,000? Are you insane?

    1. Yes. I am insane.

But I am not THIS insane.

Nor do I have this kind of scratch.

  2. I'd think that with modern computer-aided machining, Lugers (and Broomhandles) would be cheaper to build than they used to be.

    1. You'd be mistaken.

The why this is so will take a lot of explaining, and it's been years since I knew it off the top of my head.

The Cliff's notes is any mass produced item is designed for the tooling you plan to use and that will be the fastest, and cheapest, way to make it.

In the Luger's case, that's many machines, jigs and fixtures with lots of people.

CNC will let you use fewer people, but doesn't save you from having to unclamp the part, rotate it so the machine can get at the work then clamp it down again.

    2. Thank you very much. I have learned something new, so the day wasn't a total waste. Even so, wouldn't having Lugers and Broomhandles as cheap as Tokarevs be neato-keen?

    3. It would, indeed.

As 3D printing and additive machining matures, we might just start seeing these complex, labor and machinery intensive designs come back into limited production.

      First stop: .45 Broomhandle!
