KISS ME!

So...

I'm reading about and watching videos about pulling this gorram fuel tank.

Over and over they talk about how hard it is to get at things because the transmission and driveline are in the way.

It occurs to me:  What if the driveline was out of the way?

Turns out the gas tanks practically fall out once the rear cradle, trans and rear are dropped...

...like when you're doing the clutch.

Guess what this job just expanded into doing?

I can talk myself into anything if you give me enough time.

  1. Might as well while you've got it apart.

  2. I've done that job both ways.Could sneak tank out when it was a manual but too tight with an auto.Really tough though. The stainless transfer tube retainer hardest part. The inner plastic? tubing wouldn't want to separate from inner tank tubing. Also the new seals for the stainless tube were difficult to locate properly and lock the tube retainer. I hope you have access to a lift. While a lot of work to pull cradle trans assembly is much easier. On ebay you can buy kent moore corvette trans fixture j42055 for about 200.00.added cost but securely holds trans and tube. Did most of mine under warranty and it took longer than it paid, glad I'm retired.

    1. No lift, but I have the assistance of someone who's done this in their garage three times.

This is a daunting project, but not beyond stuff I've done before.

  3. You will do all right with a helper. The cradle and trans tube assy are awkward. If you have a floor jack cross beam it might make r+r of the cradle easier.(Harbor freight Pittsburg jack item.)Your friends experience will take the little mysteries out of it. Bottle of Advil will be in order.

    1. He's got something that mounts to the jack we've used before.
