There was once a time when you needed a hunk of rubber hose to bridge between the fuel filler pipe and the gas tank; you simply bought some from the local auto store.
Now...
It's unclear if they even stock such things from looking at their web pages.
From measuring at the filler, I think I need 1-3/4" for the filler and 5/8" for the vent.
I need, maybe a foot of the larger and about 18" of the smaller.
Amazon will sell me 3' of the larger and 10' of the smaller. For about $33 each.
And a wait of a few days.
I will end up with way too much after a delay.
The leak isn't too severe, so it can wait a good long time on this secondary vehicle.

Last time I needed fuel filler hose I went to the local industrial hose supply house. The hose I got was of higher quality than the whole rest of the vehicle put together.
ReplyDeleteI have a 91 Caprice that is spare parts for my 92. I will check hoses. If they are good and will fit you can have them.
ReplyDeleteSweet! Thanks!
DeleteSurprisingly enough, check your local chandler's shop (marine (as in boat) supply shop) for fuel hoses. I think they'll have them in stock for sale by the foot.
ReplyDeleteI mean, you live in Pasco County, right, there has to be a boat store somewhere.
And, ew, Pep Boys...
And this is not a weird thing. Back in the days when I was a parts-monkey at a boat store, sometimes we had better parts stuff than the local car parts stores did. Race Week (Gatornationals) we always saw some weird people perusing our fuel line selection.
DeleteThere's a boat repair place that I used to buy AmsOil from less than a mile from here.
DeleteMaybe things are different down in FL but up north we still have "local" parts stores such as NAPA supported stores that carry hose by the foot but I agree on the large diameter stuff, the chandler is a better bet or a junkyard as last resort.
ReplyDeleteWhen I needed new plastic fuel line for an old Jaguar, NO ONE had what was equivalent to the Brit clear plastic rated for fuels, that is until I found a snowmobile shop, they had the correct diameter stuff by the foot (hallelujah!)and thought I was nuts when I said 10 feet please... most customers used a foot or less. Then again, snowmobile shops are probably scarce in McThag country....
The local speed shop might have it in clear, but it'll be a bit more spendy.
DeleteNot snowmobile shops, but places that work on jetskis, as they are often the same-ish motor just with different attachments to the transmission.
DeleteJust let me know how to get them to you. hellno1958@yahoo
