Twilight: 2000 became alternate history when the war didn't start in 1995 and we didn't get nuked over Thanksgiving 1997.
Traveller, set some 3600 years, from now will become an alternate history when the Treaty of New York is not signed in 2024.
GURPS: Transhuman Space, set in 2100, has also become an alternate history because there's things listed on page 8 of the book that didn't happen from 2010 to present and will not feasibly happen in 2020.
We're no where near a cyberpunk dystopia with corporate archologies.
History doesn't seem to give a fuck that it's wrecking my game settings!
Actually, it's not.
With science fiction settings, we've been ignoring the laws of physics long enough that ignoring what really happened in history seems small 'taters now.
