An Experiment

CBS News has a list of the Deadliest US Cities.

The national average murder rate is 5.0 per 100,000 people.

They say "map" but it's a list.

Who is in charge of these cities?

1. St Louis, Missouri.  Murder rate: 60.9/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1949.

2. Baltimore, Maryland.  Murder rate: 51/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1967.

3. Detroit, Michigan.  Murder rate: 38.9/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1962.

4. New Orleans, Louisiana.   Murder rate: 37.1/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1872!!!

5. Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Murder rate: 35.1/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 2005.

6. Memphis, Tennessee.  Murder rate: 28.5/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in...  Can't find it because so many of their wikipedia entries don't mention party affiliation, but their bios imply it's been a LONG time since a Republican was mayor there.

7. Dayton, Ohio.  Murder rate: 26.4/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 2002.

8. Shreveport, Louisiana.  Murder rate: 35.7/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1998.

9. West Palm Beach, Florida.  Murder rate: 24.2/100k.  I can't find the party affiliation of the current mayor.  He replaced a term limited Democrat.  Most of the mayors I can find online have no affiliation listed.

10. Washington, DC.  Murder rate: 22.8/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat, has never had a Republican mayor; but the office was previously called 'President of the Board of Commissioners' where the last Republican left office in 1910.

11. Richmond, Virginia.  Murder rate: 22.6/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1988 (only the second of two Republican mayors).

12. San Bernadino, California. Murder rate: 22.5/100k.  The mayor is Non-Partisan and the last Republican left office in 2018 (who appears to be a token retaliation over the bankruptcy in 2012 under Democrat control).

13. North Charleston, South Carolina.  Murder rate: 22.2/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1877!

14. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Murder rate: 22.1/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1952.

14. Buffalo, New York.  Murder rate: 22.1/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1965.

16. Chicago, Illinois.  Murder rate: 20.7/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1931.

17. Little Rock, Arkansas.  Murder rate: 20.1/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in ???.

21. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Murder rate: 18.8/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1934.

22. Indianapolis, Indiana.  Murder rate: 18.5/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 2008.  Party balance has been pretty even for Indianapolis since it merged governance with the county.

23. Atlanta, Georgia.  Murder rate: 17.7/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1879!

24. Hartford, Connecticut.  Murder rate: 17.1/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1971.

25. High Point, North Carolina.  Murder rate: 16.9/100k.  No easy list of affiliation.

26. Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Murder rate: 16.6/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1908.  Milwaukee has had a Socialist mayor (1948-1960) more recently than a Republican.

27. Oakland, California.  Murder rate: 16.3/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 1977.

28. Syracuse, New York.  Murder rate: 16.1/100k.  The mayor is an Independant and the last Republican left office in 2001.  The parties are fairly evenly represented in Syracuse over the years with no party dominating for long.

39. Greensboro, North Carolina.  Murder rate: 12.6/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat.

40. Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Murder rate: 12.3/100k.  The mayor is a Democrat and the last Republican left office in 2017, but that was a single break from 24 years of Democrats.

  1. Well, that Republican mayor in #40 was a RINO and actually out-democratted the previous democrat mayor.

  2. It's interesting that none of the PNW cities made the list, although Seattle's murder rate hit 4/100k in 2018. I think the regional demographics make a difference since the key group of African American men aged 18-34 with gang ties is very small. Interestingly NYC's murder rate is only 3.5/100k and has been declining. Probably a combination of two Republican mayors and a large population. #64 reflects badly on wannabe president Buttigeig.

    1. I'm not qualified to figure it out, but it seems there's several liberal strongholds that don't seem to have high murder rates, but absolutely shatter the national average with other crime.

It *seems* that when a Republican place has smushed the murder rate, they've managed to nail all the crime at the same time.

  3. West Palm Beach... Democrat. If it looks republican it's a RINO, or a democrat wearing a rino's skin as a suit.

Now cross reference the murder-death-kill cities to those that push or have already enacted gun control... Yeah, funny, the correlation is frightening.
