Remorseless

Apparently the title and character names from the Tom Clancy book "Without Remorse" have been surgically removed and grafted to an action movie starring Michael B Jordon.

It's obvious from the trailer that it has nothing to do with the book.

Why, Hollywood, why?

If you're going to go to the effort of writing something completely new, give it an original title.

If you're going to spend the money to get the rights to something, you should get more than the title and a couple of character's names.

Using the book's title and touting Tom Clancy, then not making a film that resembles the book, you are not drawing in fans of the book.  You are alienating them.

But if you'd adapted the original story you couldn't cast Mr Jordon.  Kelly/Clark did undercover shit where being a black dude would have gotten his ass spotted and killed in the books that Without Remorse was a prequel to.

Kelly/Clark is Irish in the books and needed to be white to pass as Russian.  His background as a SEAL in Vietnam also makes it unlikely to be black.

The movie might prove to be enjoyable and entertaining.  Mr Jordan is a fine action star.

But this isn't Without Remorse.

I'd pay to see Without Remorse.  They should even keep it set in the '70's.

  2. Yeah, great book. I've read it more than once. Why didn't they hire Will Smith to play the part just like they did in "The Wild, Wild West" when the made him post Civil War Secret Service Agent James West? That was just about as believable.........

  3. Isn't it cultural appropriation or something when they take an overtly white character and make it black?

    Just asking for a friend.

All the other portrayals of John Clark have been white.

    I hate this bullscat.

    Black Annie

    Black Karate Kid

    Black everything.

But put a whyte peepoo in a black role and 'Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.'

  4. "Hear! Hear!"

They're only doing this now that Clancy's deader than canned tuna.
They did an excellent job with Hunt For Red October.
(And if Alec Baldwin wasn't such an egomaniacal prick, he cold have been Jack Ryan to Sean Connery's James Bond, to this very day. He's the only one who ever got the part right. Starting with not being old enough to be the character's father.)
But after Clancy saw how they fornicated up Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger, and Sum Of All Fears, over his strenuous and livid objections, including telling him where to head in when he pointed out their ongoing fornications, when subsequently asked about any future movies, he would swear out loud, spit, and change the topic, and he vowed Hollyweird would never get the rights to any more of his books as long as he was alive.

Clearly, they haven't learned anything in the interim, and I wish their efforts all the success of Oceans 8, Ghostbusters: Thelma And Louise Edition, and Blues Brothers 2000 (which last was the dollar figure of the gross profit for that dog).

Hollywood never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
