The RR door latch which failed to latch...

I cannot recreate the failure on the bench. I also cannot disassemble it further without breaking things to see where the failure must be occurring.

ReplyDeleteFrom this distance, I'd guess that the latch pin has shifted or worn (or the door has been "distorted", maybe in a parking lot.) (or a hinge has slipped out of position). PITA.
The latch's position is not adjustable. The striker can be, but that doesn't affect the latch locking.
DeleteI think a piece of crud is in there and that's keeping the latch from engaging the pawl properly intermittently.
A pity that I can't take it apart to clean in there or even inspect for wear.
Do you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner? If so, maybe try that?
