I Sent Him To Die

JT has a Netflix account.

I had him take one for the team and watch "Cuties" so we don't have to.

His first impression is that it was a horrible film without considering the subject matter, and it's poorly dubbed in English over French.

The subject matter...

The entire endeavor is creepy.

It could be used by a pedo to get their rocks off, but is likely too mild for them.

The competition the girls are participating in exists outside the making of the film, that's the real nasty bit of the deal.

That these children do this, willingly or not, is abusive.

The situations depicted might have been orchestrated by the filmmaker for effect!!!!!

If the goal of the filmmaker was to shine a light on the darkness which is the pageants which sexualize children, the equivalent film to stop animal abuse is 2-hours of torturing puppies the filmmaker purchased for the film.

He does not recommend, but also says that it's not outright porn.

  1. If you can get arrested for showing co-workers nekkid baby pictures of your own children, then "Cuties" is porn.

    Soft porn, but still porn.

There are actually pretty stiff Federal statutes dealing with what is and isn't allowed. And from what has been described to me, the movie is far past the point where it's just entertainment.

If they had just stayed showing the 'cute' outfits and nasty gyrations, then it'd be equivalent of those child beauty pageant shows or the youth dance shows.

But they had to go the extra yard and show skin and...

And, yes, I know, Jodie Foster in "Taxi Driver" yada yada. And I saw TD, and that was a very disturbing flick for all sorts of reasons. So was "Blue Lagoon" and some other movies.

Not to mention the train scene out of the book "It" by Stephen 'I got far weirder after the car hit me' King. Double Yikes on that one.

    'Tis not for me.

Heck, I went clothes shopping one time for a teen girl that my wife was tutoring (because child's mother couldn't be counted on doing it) and was flabbergasted at the nastiness of female childrens' undergarments. And that was 10 years ago. Scars still exist deep in my mind over that one.

  2. This is the very reason I put myself under the gun to actually view the movie. Unless I completely missed the scene, there was no skin other than legs and midriff shown in the movie. No nudity at all and no sex scenes. Sexually suggestive dance and skimpy attire, yes. Yet even the final dance competition scene of the 4 girls in the movie with what I would consider inappropriate camera shots (close up crotch shots) also showed angered and shocked responses from the crowd viewing the competition. Was the dialog and plot poorly written, yes. Would I watch it again, no. Would I recommend it to anyone, no. Maybe the movie made more sense in French.

And for the record, I have a daughter that does dance, and I would not condone her wearing anything as revealing as they showed in the movie not would I let her attend dance at a studio that used such attire at their recitals.
