Willard has often said there are levels to humor.
1: Funny to anyone.
2. Funny only to someone who's been in the military, or someone who is very close to someone who has.
3. Funny only to someone who's been in combat.
4. Funny only to someone who was in combat with you.
I remember telling a joke that really offended the fiance of a friend.
A joke I thought nothing of because the color of military humor is BLACK!
Worried that I'd mistaken the situation, I told the same joke to several aviators and pilots, and one astronaut.
They all laughed.
Being a category 2 joke, she's never going to understand.
Now that I know that there's category 2 jokes, I don't tell them in mixed company any more.
I also cherish the day I was allowed to have a beer with my uncles and exchange category three stories.
And fuck! I'm the only one left. How did that happen?
All hard professions, the military, firefighters, cops, coal miners, railroad people, sailors (both gun sailors and cargo sailors) etc, all have dark senses of humor.

It's sad that hard professions have been infiltrated by the sjw who fight the dark humor worse than that profession's enemies.

Besides being a Vietnam era WESTPAC Sailor I am an Old "SKYDIVER!!" First leap... 08MAY1964 and still have not found a reason (Good, Bad or Otherwise) to quit!!!!!!!
Skydiving "Humor" like the Military.. is Very Black!!!!!! Skydiving is heavily seeped with Military influence... eg "Airborne Paratroops!!!" Listen to the Airborne Choir doing "Blood On the Risers!!"
On occasion someone... "Goes In!!,".. "Bounces!!" and of course it's never pretty!! Whether it is a plane crash or parachuting ... there will be "Comments!!"
Go to www.dropzone.com ... go to the forums and down to the History and trivia form scroll down till you find (it is usually within a couple of pages) "Scary Stories from the old Days!!" by "Steve1" .. it has been around for a while and is up to 62 pages long now... about page 10 I published a few under my handle "skybill" ... while yer at it there's a few by my friend Jim "airtwardo" ... make sure you have enough whiskey and beer handy... you will be reading for a while!!
Somewhere in that post I think is the story of "The Bird Bath!!!" ... This kid made a rally nice Ginger Bread Man, Cookie Cutter Crater .. feb. of 83 at Scare-Us-Valley in the plant nursery on the other side of the canal after it had rained for a few dayz... the ground was really "SOFT!!' Needless to say he made a "Lasting impression!!" After he got peeled out.. that evening there were many "Crater Lurks!!!" Ol' "DOC!!" saw the Crater and got a wild idea.. went to town and bought all the "Plaster of paris" he could find,,, mixed it up and made a "Cast" of the crater from which he then made a "MOLD!" which became a "Bird bath!!!!!!!!!!!!
As we say in Skydiving... This is a "No Shit Story!!"
