SLAP! Bad Thag!

Being the idiot that I am, I've been poking around GunBroker looking for a x59 S&W and variations of the Sigma and SD9.

Can't be a collector if you don't collect, right?

I love doing comparison studies.

I notice that there's not much for sale in 2nd and 3rd gen Smiths at the moment.

Lots of the SD9, but those are still in production.

Not a lot of Sigma of any flavor.  I expect those got snapped up as a cheap spare or as someone's first gun.

I figure I'm only interested in doing the S&W comparison because it doesn't seem like anyone else has bothered.

Lots of people ask what's different between the three generations, but nobody really answers.

People seem to avoid even talking about the Sigma except to put it down.

  1. The first handgun I ever bought was a Sigma, probably ten years ago. It was reliable, in that it would shoot every time I pulled the trigger, but Lord, that trigger! It felt like I had to pull that thing forever over a field of broken glass, and it was harder to pull than a double-action revolver.

  2. Hey Angus;

    I got a Sigma and it works like it supposed to, I got the trigger kit and now it don't go "bang" anymore....I am not sure what the problem is. I did the complete trigger and spring kit. When I squeeze the trigger, I get no "Click" of the firing pin going forward. I haven't had the time to dig into it yet.

    1. If it's the Apex trigger, it's hitting the frame before it can move the sear out of engagement with the striker. You're going to have to take the back plate off the slide and remove the striker to disassemble it now! Ask me how I know.

      Apex says to file away at the square shaped notch on the back of the trigger until it will move enough to trip the sear. As I said before, on Harvey's and the new Sigma, this was a LOT of removal before they'd go click.

      The spring kit, on the other hand, worked great on all three Sigmas we've played with.

    2. Hey Angus;

      Yep it is an Apex per your recommendation a while back. OK, now I have an idea now what to look for. Thanks!
