    Even if you have the money an F104 is risky, remember the old German joke:

      Zie Germans also tried to use them as all weather fighter-bombers. Lots of low-level and inclement weather. Even A-10's had a scary loss rate doing that job in Germany.

      The nations who treated as the point-defense interceptor it was intended to be did much better on the loss rate.
