"Constitutional Carry" does not mean "permitless concealed carry" or "free carry permits".
It means carry however the citizen wants, without a permit or permission.
It even concedes to some gun-free zoning, but the core of it is that as long as the citizen can have a gun, they can carry that gun.
Openly, concealed, semi-concealed...
Pistol, rifle...
As long as we use our manners, there shouldn't be any problems.
But the "what about the tourism dollars?" crowd is terrified some foreigner from someplace that bans guns, like New York, will see a holster without a uniform and not spend money at Disney.
There's a part of me that thinks that's a feature of constitutional carry and not a bug. ;)
But everyone knows what constitutional carry means, except the Florida Senate.
If you're voting here, you might wanna remind your state congress creature who brought them to the dance and that you know what the term is supposed to mean.

There was similar whinging here in Texas about concealed carry, then permitless concealed carry, then open carry, then permitless open carry. And all this has been just about handguns because open or concealed carry of long guns has never been illegal here. But every time there is talk about how the sheeple will be scared or "blood will flow in the streets"... it's turned out to be much ado about nothing. We have seen an increase in murders the last few years... BUT it appears to have little to nothing to do with allowing more carry. Why? Because a lot of the increase is among people who are prohibited, usually for being felons, domestic abusers or illegals. And the increases in beating, stabbing, etc., are as big or possibly bigger than firearms related murders. The problem appears that the Police around here are hundreds of officers short due to funding issues as well as having whole cadet academies cancelled so they could develop "sensitivity training" and then so many experienced officers leaving because of the climate they are forced to work in where the DA of Travis Co. has openly stated he wants to prosecute officers. Oh... but not prosecute anyone who is "traditionally disadvantaged"... or pretty much any "minor" crimes. And even what he prosecutes, the courts are mostly handing down weak sentences for anything except for the most aggregious offenses -- or of course Police. So basically in some jurisdictions the Police are more or less not responding to anything anymore. THAT is why crime and murders are up. There's nobody watching the hen house, so the foxes are having fun.
ReplyDeleteBack when gov DeSantis said to give him a bill to sign for the second time I started having a debate with myself on how bad the senate was going to screw him. After his big (nearly) 20 point win in November he is far more popular than any of them but with term limits, how much does that matter? If they screw DeSantis and all Florida gun owners, as they always do, they still get their money from Disney or whoever. If they're eligible for re-election they might be there next term and if they're term-limited, they'll probably get elected on name recognition to some office down the hall.
ReplyDeleteDo the senate re-pigs screw DeSantis or pass the bill?
I can convince myself either way.
Echoing the Texas comments... When I moved here, working on a University campus I was pleasantly surprised that ANY carry was possible, and sitting down and chatting with our Chief of Police I got the advice to get the LTC ("License to Carry", TX CCW permit) as it does allow a LOT more latitude and covers you legally in a lot more situations. Oh, and places like Universities who might deny constitutional carry do allow in most cases licensed carry. Just of course areas that are forbidden, and we have a nice safe to allow our folks to safely store things while they have to go to sensitive areas... But it does reinforce the perception I have that folks tend to be a LOT more polite here than say, Illinois where I escaped from...
