I Would Want A Jetson's Soundtrack

Automakers are talking about adding fake engine sounds to their electric vehicles.

Ugh.

The Beast sounds too much like a Tesla already with it's massive mufflers.

It's ironic that I've got something in common with a Tesla owner and that's a desire to hear some rumble and burble.

At least mine will come from the engine.

  1. Part of the fake engine noise is being pushed by whiny leftists who say pedestrians and cyclists can't hear the electric cars. But part of the push is by whiny owners who say the car just doesn't sound right.

F them all. I live in Florida. The ability to not have to rely on the batteries in case I need to boot scoot and boogey from a storm far outweighs any potential benefit from the Ohm-mobiles.

    1. IIRC, Toyota added the noise because the Ohm Stealthmobiles where smacking pedestrians unawares on the reg, which was about to garner them adverse rulings and legislation from Uncle's minions, and jacked rates from the insurance vultures who really run things, which would have been Satan's Pitchfork for their long-term chances.

But your rationale for not relying on one for your reasons (and any number of others for all sorts of disaster prudence, anywhere in the country) remains absolutely sound.

  2. Seconded.
I would want the sound of George Jetson's spacemobile, playing at 11.
The redshift for pedestrians as you go by would be epic.

  3. My old trucks stereo will pick up the ignition noise if you put it on an open channel. Sounds better than the trucks exhaust.

    1. I had a car back in the day with an Accel "Super Coil", solid core 8mm Accel plug wires and solid copper core Accel plugs that put out so much RFI that it would blot out radio reception on other cars as I passed them. I didn't even bother with a stereo in that car because even if it could get reception, the exhaust was loud enough you'd need more watts than the car had horsepower to begin to hear it.

  5. My Charger R/T had a decent rumble from the factory but it wasn't enough for me so I did a FlowMaster Force 2 cat back and a K&N air filter, it also kicked me up to nearly 400 horse from the factory 370. Much better, and with the AWD a beast in the snow.

    Eric.

  6. No matter how loud they make the fake engine sound, you can't feel the engine .
