Lazy Or Cowardly

I've noticed several blogs have shut off their comments.

Is managing the comments really that tasking?

Are you afraid of engaging with your readers?  More to the point, are you afraid your readers will engage you?

I know they can be infuriating.

Something else I've noticed about blogs that have killed the comments: Groupthink.

Style note for a blogger who's shut down comments:  Don't ask questions of your readers if you're not going to let them reply.

  1. Phil at Bustedknuckles has been attacked by a bunch of pAntifa and BoweL Moves matter folk. Which caused him to shift web hosting companies because the idiots were threatening to take him down for being mean.

    Of course, within half a day, Phil and everyone else knew exactly who was doing the attacks.

    But, yeah, as you have seen here on this site, approving comments can be a bear. A female bear. Actually an intact female dog of breeding age. So, people who don't have a lot of time or don't want to deal with the harassment are shutting off comments. Sadly.

    1. Phil has a decent excuse.

      I'm more about the people who simply shut them off without much explanation after being disagreed with for a while.

      In an early case, I watched them developing their groupthink with their clique on Facebook before they killed comments. Commenters kept bringing outside the clique information to the discussion.

  2. Hey Angus;

    I have to moderate on my blog because of "Spam" comments. I rarely moderate any other comments.

    1. I changed to a moderation policy because Google nuked several means of logging in and I still wanted to let people comment who didn't have gmail accounts.

You are a guest here when you comment. This is my soapbox, not yours. Be polite. Inappropriate comments will be deleted without mention. Amnesty period is expired.

Do not go off on a tangent, stay with the topic of the post. If I can't tell what your point is in the first couple of sentences I'm flushing it.

If you're trying to comment anonymously: You can't. Log into your Google account.

If you can't comprehend this, don't comment; because I'm going to moderate and mock you for wasting your time.
