Subject Before The Predicate Put

This here bloggin' thing is writing.

I guess I write as a hobby?

That it is intelligible at all is more from me putting my head down and just doing it.

But I don't know the rules.

I must have learned them, but I don't know them.

It's like a musician who cannot read sheet music but still plays acceptably.

  1. If you ever took a class in school that used "Warriner's English Grammar and Composition" as a text-book, then you are lightyears ahead of everyone else today. You know, the half-sized textbook that taught you to diagram the sentence structure. That one. Best English language textbook ever.

  3. I have always considered myself functionally illiterate. English was by far my worst subject in school. And that's bad because I was a terrible student in general. I can't spell or diagram a sentence. The sad thing is... kids these days who have their parents bragging about their A+ grade point averages... are even worse. It is unbelievable how poorly they write and how terrible their reading comprehension seems to be. The schools have really dumbed down the curriculum and lowered standards in order to try to allow "nobody to be left behind". The problem being, it appears nobody gets ahead. Their is a lot of crying and teeth gnashing about Asian students taking all the honors and valedictorian spots... Because apparently their parents are the only ones that value education at all. Proving that it isn't that there isn't opportunity to get a quality education even in the worst, least funded schools, IF there is motivation to take advantage of what is there. I have no doubt that those kids are in many cases exceeding their teachers and learning on their own or outside the classroom. Where there's a will, there's a way. And there's another thing. Both McThag and I are the product of a High School and a school district which is extremely prideful. But I'd say, that if either of us can function at all it is probably almost as much in spite of those schools than because of them.

But I ramble... and I probably shouldn't write after drinking Bourbon...

  4. Regarding word order in English sentences, always remember the wisdom of Yoda, so that you know what to avoid.
"If you a Jedi Knight would be, backwards to talk, learn you must."
