Off-Handed

Something a lot of us neglect is practicing in degraded mode.

What if your good arm isn't working when you have to get to your pistol?

Can you still get to it with your off-hand?

If you can, can you hit the broad side of a barn shooting with the other paw?

Might be a good idea to find out when the stakes are low.

  1. Took the wife shooting this weekend. She has grip issues and could not consistently sling shot the slide, even on the .22

It is worth working on. Not at the range. Some of the methods for one handed racking of slides are considered "unsafe"

    1. I carry in a shoulder holster. Those are verboten for every class and range I've ever been to.

    2. Because the muzzle faces to the rear when holstered and you have to break the 180 to draw and reholster.

You're sweeping everything to your side when you draw (and your arm if you don't pay attention).

  2. My range will let me remove from the shoulder holster. Not draw and fire. And they allow me to return to the shoulder holster.

We talked about it and were considering doing some draw and fire while on the left most lane. I decided against.

I'm old and fat and my gun belt cuts into my belly so I only wear it and hip carry, iwb or owb if I'm moving outside my comfort AO. I wear the shoulder rig all other times, no belt required.
