75x483mm CTA

Two versions of the XM885 APFSDSDU round were developed.

The Delta 3 which was supposed to have parity with the 105mm M774 round and the Delta 6 which was better...

The Russians think that the M774 can penetrate about 390mm of RHA.

The Delta 6 was supposed to be able to penetrate 430mm RHA; on par with the 105mm M833.

390mm is DR 1,075.  To penetrate that you need 6dx25(2) pi++ inc.

430mm is DR 1,185.  To penetrate that you need 6dx28(2) pi++ inc.

Apparently the Army wanted no less than 450mm of penetration (6dx30(2) pi++ inc) to counter "future threats" and this took the XM274 out of the running.  This is most likely also why the M8 Ridgeway light tank sits moribund.  The 105mm M833 just barely penetrates the 450mm RHA test article.  105mm M900 is still classified, but we didn't feel unarmed with it in our M1(IP).  Speculation is that it'd punch 520mm RHA (6dx34(2) pi++ inc).

Odd that it was OK for the Stryker MGS to use a 105mm... in about the same role as the LAV-75 would perform... where the LAV-75 is a LOT more transportable...

Damn peace dividend and all.
