Just another day with The Boy.
In the first place, he's spoiled rotten. Our fault. We gave in on too many things too often from feeling bad about his condition.
He learned to get his way by presenting a certain kind of behavior.
But that's not every time he goes off.
Not sure what triggers it, but it's pretty massive.
Because he's removed from the adult day training program, there's no fucking support from the state agencies because... reasons. They like to blame Wu Ping Cough, but...
Let's just say that generous funding is available and is being left untouched because the rules about getting the funding pretty much preclude dealing with kids like The Boy.
It's a Catch 22.
I can sympathize with your feelings. We have a 24 year old autistic boy who likes to insert his independent streak too. He isn't physically threatening, but lately decided he wanted to go out and 'stretch his legs' walking to nearby stores. Only thing is - he doesn't say when he is leaving. And he refuses to take his phone with him. The good thing is we have a very good idea where he is headed, so when we go out to look, we know where to look.
ReplyDeleteJobs are hard to find for him. Right now, a local sports arena employs him at their snack bar. Its not a steady 40 hour per week job, more like 12 every two weeks with some weekends far busier. It does get him outside and allows him to earn some money and gain autonomy. So far, he is liking the job.
I wanted for him to work at the public library because (small building footprint so not much effort + quiet environment + indoor air conditioned job.) But local libraries aren't hiring, with some interest in people who write programs.
