Despite buy-one-get-one deals, the Anheuser-Busch products are sitting on the shelves at my local Winn-Dixie.
Other brands, especially the local craft beers, are severely depleted.
And I remember hearing that boycotts would never work...

I tend to not buy AB products in general just because most of them aren't that good, and usually not inexpensive either. Restaurants and music or race venues that only offer AB products I tend to get Ziegenbock if it is available (brewed at AB's Houston brewery and only sold here in Texas - albeit Michelob Amber Bock which is sold in other markets is nearly the same formula as far as I can tell). I tend to buy a lot more local product. We've got over 30 breweries in the Austin area and dozens more in the other Texas cities... And while not all of the offerings are things I'm into, there are a lot of the craft offerings that have character.
ReplyDeleteHaving people give some non-mainstream-bland-american-light-lager swill a try is probably a good thing. Some of them might find that they actually like a beer with flavor. Which you certainly can't say about Bud Light... or barely even regular Bud.
Anyway, I'm not necessarily butt-hurt over AB's tranny marketing... But it seems stupid to me. All it is doing is causing a kerfluffle over basically nothing. But I'm no expert in marketing, and other moves like that which seemed incredibly dumb at the time worked out in the long run. The even bad publicity is publicity angle.
I am not a huge drinker, I will sometimes buy a single 25oz. can of an on sale beer from our local convenience store, while getting a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread. It might be an AB brand or something else. But now, I will make sure that it is not AB.
ReplyDeleteIf I am buying on purpose, as in a 6 pack, it will usually be Michelob Amber Bock, or something with actual taste. I will pay what ever it costs since I likely only buy beer in that quantity twice a year or so. I have tried some of the craft beers, but since they are hit and miss, I am less likely to go with them.
I think that the advertising campaign will bite them in the ass, just like it will get Jack Daniels. They did the same thing, and while I am not a fan, those who are will drop them the same way that Budweiser drinkers are dropping them. To me, it is a simple thing, Budweiser was considered an all American beer, and that means that the people who buy it are likely conservatives, and trying to push a woke agenda on them will fail and fail miserably.

ReplyDeleteI'll have to check stock when I grocery shop tonight. I never buy Budweiser anyway but I'm curious to see stock levels of A-B affiliated micro brews
