Down To One Aisle

My father in law needed a rain-coat.

The selection at Wal Mart was not to his liking, so we wandered down to Bass Pro Shops.

He was successful at finding one there.

I went to the gun corner to look at ammo and I'm struck at how small the ammo section is now.

One half of one aisle.

It used to be three entire aisles.

They have common calibers for OK prices, so I snagged me some 9mm to feed Harvey's practice sessions.

  2. When I'm in funds, I buy at gun shows. The selection at the last few I was at was pretty pathetic, and I could not find .308 NATO or 30-40 Krag anywhere. I may have to take up reloading.

    1. The cost of admission and parking at the gun shows around here is generally more than shipping from Midway or Brownell's for small volumes of ammo.

When I am in funds, I buy from the nice folks at Widener's.

I am rarely in funds. Too many hobbies.

    2. The ammunition at gun shows where I am is priced about 20 - 50% higher than the gun shop or stores that still sell ammunition. But the shows do have opportunities for obsolete - hard to find ammunition. You are just going to pay through the nose to get it.

.250 Savage ? Snerk. 6mm Remington ? Occasionally, but 6.5 Creedmore is much more common than that. I realize the .250 Savage has been around since 1911 (iirc) but 6mm Remington isn't nearly as old as that.

  3. I've had far fewer opportunities to shoot lately than I'd like so I haven't done as much ammo or component aquisition. I need to start putting back some stockpile of primers and powder once finances are stabilized again. Powder is relatively readily available now, but primers still are extremely tight supply.

  4. Aw crap, I forgot to sign again. I should mention that a few years ago the libtards around here managed to force all the gun shows out of Travis and Williamson Counties. They tried legal means but ended up leaning on the owners of all the venues with political pressure to get it done. So now for me going to a gun show involves a 30+ minute drive. They still have them sometimes in Bastrop or Hayes counties, but the bigger ones are a bit further, Temple/Belton or Waco.
