I know people who got locked in their school locker whom would beat the shit out of the current generation.
That does not speak well of the current generation.

Just because I knew my way around a locker by feel doesn't mean I was was soft. The guys offering the tours were just bigger. But I was out there in someone's yard, playing football, or on a bicycle, climbing a tree, and wound up a roughneck. Have you seen the arms on these button pushing weenies? I'll bet they don't even Have a rope hanging in the gym any more. I Know dodge ball. The schools declared war on boys being boys a long time ago. I don't know how they are still able to field a football team.
ReplyDeleteFull disclosure, I got bullied, but nobody ever stuffed me in a locker, or gave me a swirly. Your point about the guys who were the victims then would be Able to intimidate the crap outta this generation isn't lost on me.
At least my generation knew which bathroom to use.
ReplyDeleteToo true. Got beat on, thrown over a 2nd story balcony, attacked regularly in school.
ReplyDeleteAnd... when I was fighting in the SCA, I used to be able to stay in armor and fight much longer than people younger than me, and often got told I hit tooo hard. Funny, pounding on a guy, he's going "Ow, ow, ow," and I keep hitting him. Apparently, he didn't want to call the hit because, yes, hit him too hard.
True story…
ReplyDeleteLast week our church took delivery of 50,000 lbs of pumpkins to sell at our annual Pumpkin Patch fundraiser. That’s a 53’ dry van loaded five feet deep from front to back. We had probably a dozen “old guys” and 40-50 high school and college kids, several of whom make up our local HS varsity football team.
The 40+ blue collar guys just got up in the trailer and started handing down pumpkins till we were done two hours later. The kids… not so much. Water breaks, air breaks, bathroom breaks, you name it. I think the record for anyone under age 30 was 30 min on the truck.
I’m not sure if they’re weak, per se, but I do know none of the young guns have ever had to push through physical hardship, discomfort be damnned… and it shows. Us old guys knew they’d pay for it in the morning, but we all know how to push through anyway.
