Um, Yeah, Fuck YOU

Went to pay my car insurance.

$660 a month.

It was $500 for the previous six months.

It was $350 a month the six months before that and about $250 a month for the previous 11 years.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK USAA?

It's hard to comparison shop when hardly any insurance company lists my 2012 Caprice.

BUT!

State Farm threw a quote of $421 a month.

Looks like I'm changing insurance companies.

  1. State Farm is well known for offering low rates and then once you got hooked good and hard, will bend you over and not use any lubricant, if you know what I mean.

And I have also been hit by USAA's rate increase, which sucks balls. I think we're paying for all the cars in California being broken into.

    1. When they raise their rate I will jump ship again.

  2. I have USAA as well. Mine went up $100 this last quarter. I though it was because turned over 65.

  3. Been with State Farm since 73, periodically I check other offers and not a single one has ever been able to match their "lower" rate. Yes, we were all screwed when no fault was instituted and continue being screwed daily. Michigan has what I consider onerous rates, but nowhere near as bad as FL or CA (yet). Given we have a D party hack for governor, I fully expect that rates will continue to go up. In all the years have only filed 2 claims, one for a deer strike to side of one car and wife car got crunched by an idiot in a parking lot. Our rates did not go up based on the accidents (neither were caused by us). Don't know if that is their policy but it makes me a solid customer. The odd part is that nowadays, an old beater car with near zero value retail seems to be getting hosed. My 2005 VW costs more than the 2019 VW. Have not figured that one out.
Good luck with SF, hope the do well by you.

  4. Can't speak to the US motor insurance market, but in the UK it is generally accepted that if you stay with the same insurer year after year you will get hosed. Accordingly, usual practice is to comparison shop on a yearly basis and take the bid that gives you the best cover for the lowest price. Don't know how it works in the US but this side of the Pond, your "No Claims Discount" is fully portable.

  5. It's the same here. But for 11 years the price was amazingly steady with USAA and the other brands were just a bit more. These last two cycles have seen large increases out of the blue.

  6. Damn Angus, I don't even know what to make of those rates. Here on the Front Range I insure three vehicles a 2014 Dodge Charger R/T AWD a 2017 Subaru Cross Trek and a 2003 Ford Explorer all with full coverage for $248 a month and I use State Farm.

    Eric.

  7. Daym... Geico charges us about $230/mo for a 2013 F-150, 2013 Silverado 1500, a 2017 F-250 4x4 and an Rv trailer.

  8. there have been several articles recently starting insurance was going up everywhere and not even renewing policies in certain states (with hurricanes and wild fires) because they can't make money... so your home owners/renters insurance will probably go up to.... panzer guy

  9. Holy crap that's expensive. I'm paying way less than that, like similar to what yours was a couple years ago. I'm sure hoping that the prices don't increase like that here... That's a crazy increase. The people I've heard getting bent over around here are Kia and Hyundia owners because of the massive number of thefts of them due to their design flaw that makes them stupidly easy to steal. Some companies won't insure them at all.
