Faves

Most of us have many guns.

Even in the larger collections, we have favorites.

Brenda surprised me.

She's an experiment and a response to how appallingly expensive the WWSD and KE Arms Civil Defense rifles were.

I said to myself, "Self, you can make just as serviceable a rifle without breaking the bank on boutique widgets."

And I did!

Seems to shoot well and has been unfailingly reliable.  The performance I'm getting matches what James Reeves, of TFBTV, says he got from his Civil Defense rifle on his YouTube channel.

She gets shot a lot, because something surprising happened.

I really like this gun!

She's plastic and fantastic and the most comfortable AR I own.

What are some of your favorites?

  1. Favorites:
1916 Enfield built SMLE with a Bantam length stock, so it was likely refurbed during WWI.
Interarms Virginia Dragoon in .44 Magnum. Likely to be the first pistol I ever fired, when I was 10 or 11.

    Favorites to shoot:
I really like my H&K P30 and Walther PDP. Both in 9mmP.
    Marlin 336 in .30-30.
Ruger Mk II Government Target. Sweeeeeeet.
Ruger Police Service Six in .357.
The aforementioned SMLE. Serious giggle stick.
    Ruger 10/22.

My ARs are just kind of there. I mean any trigger time is fun, but I wouldn't say they're in the "favorite" territory.

  2. I guess my favorite ranch pistol is a Star PD .45acp. Very compact, light and stays out of my way in a Bianchi minimal belt holster. If six rounds in .45acp does not solve your problem, you are indeed in deep doo-doo.

Runner up is a Glock 30 in same round, but double the capacity. It may overtake the Star, but I am so used to the Spanish gun (41 years and counting), it will be hard to displace.

  5. I like my Indian Ishapore SMLE, but .308 NATO is all but impossible to find.

    1. There's this thing called "The Internet" and there are many places on "The Internet" whom will sell you all the ammo you can afford. 7.62x51mm NATO is not a rare and obscure round. Neither is .308 Winchester.

Last time I bought .308 is was from Wal Mart, so there's that; but many Wal Marts don't have ammo anymore.

    2. I am aware of the internet. When I go to sites that purport to sell ammunition, every caliber I like is "Out of Stock." For some time I attributed this to the war in Afghanistan, but now I'm not so sure.

    3. Clearly, you are NOT aware of the internet. https://www.midwayusa.com/308-winchester/br?cid=22188

How's about you actually check some sites before complaining?

  6. Asking me to pick a favorite gun is like asking me to pick a favorite child.

    I don’t have any children.

I keep coming back to two I love.

My Smith and Wesson 25-2, 6”, .45 ACP. I now have three .45 ACP revolvers, but that one was my first, and I purely enjoy shooting it.

And my S&W .22 Kit Gun. Also totally fun to shoot, and a neat little gun for walking outside. (“Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks…”)

I haven’t shot it in a while, but if I was going into harm’s way, the gun I have the most confidence in is a used Hi-Power I bought a few years back at Cabela’s. They had a bunch of them that were supposedly law enforcement surplus at an affordable price. It isn’t that pretty to look at, but I feel like I shoot it best of all my guns right now. And if I ever get a MP-5 clone, I’ll be ready to do Iranian Embassy cosplay.
