I tore the old sensor apart with my Dremel tool!
The inner trace appears to have some kind of corrosion on it.

Contamination, maybe, not corrosion as such. Looks like the tracks are carbon resistance material, which wouldn't corrode. The discolored section could be from some type of fluid contamination. Take a look under magnification.
