It Occurs

The gun grabbers keep demanding, "reasonable restrictions" on the right to keep and bear arms.

It just occurred to me that we had that.

For years it was just the weirdos, like me, who were into "assault weapons" and saying that even the "reasonable" restrictions were unconstitutional and should be repealed.  Gun owners as a whole looked askance at us.

There really weren't that many guns like that available because there wasn't much demand.

But the gun grabbers went for unreasonable restrictions and what we're looking at now is the backlash.

Now we weirdos who are the mainstream with regards to owning a modern sporting rifle and demanding expansions to liberty rather than just being contended.

We didn't even have a word for Fudds back then!

The Overton Window moved and it didn't move the way the gun grabbers wanted.

That's a good thing.

  1. There are no reasonable restrictions on rights, especially when the supreme law expressly forbids any restrictions at all.

    1. I concur. I've long said so.

However, in 1992 this wasn't in the center of the overton window for most gun owners like it is now.

The grabbers getting Brady and the AWB moved it for a lot of gun owners.

Until the AWB you rarely heard anyone talking about things like 922r and 922o. Now we all, pretty much, know what those numbers represent.

About as "reasonable" as I can get is accepting that we will probably reclaim our rights in the same manner as they were taken: incrementally, one law and bite at a time.

    2. As long as the Fudds keep stabbing us in the back, like here in Florida, it will be a very slow process.

    3. But it is the children who are not being exposed to firearms for whatever purpose. Target - hunting - self defense - how many children are taken out by their parents or family friend and exposed to shooting in general. All children know about firearms is on computer or TV shows - and we all see what they do. New persons use the term 'gun violence' like the firearm created the crime and not the person

      jrg.

  2. I can never pin those people down on what they would accept as "reasonable" restrictions. My own impression is that their attitude is that "Whatever we have is ours---whatever you have is next on our list."

  3. That's it exactly, but if there's an audience, keep pushing. They may have squishes who just haven't noticed that they're being lied to.
