The Epidemic Is OVER

An epidemic is 15 new or more cases per 100,000 population per day for two weeks or longer.

For Florida that means 3,090 new cases per day.

On May 10 we dropped below 3,090 for the first time since March.  All but six days since have been under the threshold.

By the definition of epidemic, it's over.

For realsies.

  1. I haven't seen a definition of an epidemic before, but I'm surprised there were enough cases to meet it. I had assumed that if COVID ever met the definition, they'd use it instead of continuing to call it a "pandemic". I was certain they would be using "epidemic" if they thought they could get away with it.

    1. Pandemic is just a wide-spread epidemic. Epidemic refers to a local geographic region, pandemic to a virus that is widespread across multiple geographic regions or countries.

  2. Of course, if case handling of Covid had been treated like any previous flu, it most likely wouldn't have been anywhere near as serious as it was hyped to be.
